THE BROWN NICKEL: A MEMORY RECALL

MEMORY RECALL and PAST LIVES REGRESSION are on the same continuum with regard to HYPNOTHERAPY. Although a MEMORY RECALL is not as far right, on the linear scale, or back on the temporal scale, as a PAST LIVES REGRESSION, for the client achievement of either, the two methodologies in hypnotherapy are very similar. Take for example, this personal MEMORY RECALL of mine.

I was hunting grasshoppers in the empty and weedy lot next door to my home. My home was the rented basement suite of a small bungalow on 8th Avenue, N.W. in Swift Current, Saskatchewan. The owners of the bungalow were the Irene and Bert Terlson, a middle-class nuclear family which included their two daughters, Valerie and Debbie. I cannot remember much about our basement suite, except that it was tiny. That was the only place I remember living with my parents, and they separated when I was six. So, I must have been either a five- or six-year-old grasshopper hunter. Right after my parents split, I moved to a farm in Shaunavon, Saskatchewan to live with my grandparents.

Anyway, armed with a sealer jar, I was crawling around hunting for grasshoppers in empty lot next door to our place, and right next door to that were several men on a construction crew, constructing what I do not know. I remember having a couple of tiniest lime-green grasshoppers and a yellow cabbage butterfly held captive in my jar. I remember crawling on my elbows and belly through the weeds, hoping for more exotic bug finds, especially grasshoppers. Why I loved grasshoppers so much, I really cannot recall. I do know that as an adult I have not been so much in love, not at all actually.

Crawling around that day, I can recall it being a very dry and scorching hot day. And crawling in those weeds that day, I found a brown nickel! I had never before seen a brown nickel. I ran home to show my mom. With a look of reproach she said, “Give it back.” “Go there and give it back to the man who gave it to you.”

“Nobody gave it to me,” I said. “Nobody gave it to me!” It’s not that I had a history of lying to my mom. In fact, I cannot recall any conversation with my mom when we lived below the Terlsons. I do know that at age I was definitely not a mythomaniac.

After much pleading to no avail, I walked back across the lot where I found the nickel, and onto the next lot where the workers were. I approached one of the men. I do remember he had a wrinkled and swarthy complexion, and he wore coveralls and a grey hat to match. “I’m not taking your money, kid. Tell your mom the truth. Tell her you found it.”

I told the worker I had to give it to him, and that if I didn’t, I would just be throwing it back into the weeds. I cannot recollect more of that conversation, but I do remember taking a drink from his water jug, and I do remember his bemused look as he took my brown nickel and stuffed it in his trouser pocket.

Years later as an adolescent I was pleasantly surprised when handed another brown nickel by chance getting change at Seto’s CafĂ© in Vanguard, Saskatchewan. Factoid: That brown nickel I got from Seto’s is still in my possession. The date on it is 1943. I’ve no idea of the date on that brown nickel I found in the weeds so very long ago.

Another factoid: Seems I’ve an affinity for brown nickels, for now I have a slew of them in a sock in a drawer!

This brown nickel incident is a Memory Recall, not a Past Lives Regression. Prompted via autosuggestion (self-hypnosis), it happened in my current-body past. To differentiate this MEMORY RECALL from a PAST LIVES REGRESSION, this memory is a faraway recollection of when I was a youngster in my present life. Sometimes a memory recall, especially having occurred some fifty or more years ago, will seem just as exciting and therapeutic as any past life regression. I believe that both a memory recall and a past life regression are on the same mental and imaginary continuum, and therefore both could have similar and valuable therapeutic outcomes for the client.

Affirmation: THE BROWN NICKEL is a writing of non-fiction. Names, characters, places, events, and incidents are the product of this author’s imagination and experience, brought from my mind to blog to enlighten the reader on the topic of MEMORY RECALL vs PAST LIVES REGRESSION.

And speaking of PAST LIVES REGRESSION, dear readers, please keep in mind my PAST LIVES REGRESSION RETREAT coming this AUGUST 28TH & 29th in WAKAMOW VALLEY, MOOSE JAW, SASKATCHEWAN, CANADA.
