|ASHES TO ASHES|
Karma literally means action but usually refers to the accumulated reactions to action. Good Karma and bad Karma are stored reactions that gradually (or suddenly) unfold to determine a rather unique destiny for each of us.
Karma is generated only in humans, because only humans have lives of responsibility and the capability of free choice.
Yesterday my friend, Chris texted that her son, Connor, though accepted into pre-med at the University of Saskatchewan, had just been rejected on his application for residency at the University of Saskatchewan … I mentioned this to my workmate, Natalie … Natalie texted this information to her good friend, Susan, who has a son, Andrew, currently attending the University of Saskatchewan. … Andrew, it so happened, had just been advertising for a room-mate … And Andrew, it so happened, had graduated from Luther High School in Regina … Connor, coincidentally, will just be graduating (tomorrow) from Luther High School in Regina. Also, Connor played keeper for the Luther High School elite soccer team … And Andrew’s father, Glavin, happened to be Connor’s soccer coach during his four years playing soccer at Luther. Connor and his mother, Chris, drove up to Saskatoon today to meet Andrew to see, if indeed, Connor would be a good match to share Andrew’s apartment space. This coming fall Connor will be moving into his new digs with his new room-mate, Andrew.
Some people believe that nothing happens to a person without a reason – or some other deserve. This is called Karma. Both Connor’s mom, Chris, and my workmate, Natalie, are strong believers in Karma, and both Chris and Natalie wanted me to write about Karma for this blog entry. Chris and Natalie are the KARMA QUEENS referenced in the title of this blog. Chris habitually acquiesces to her Karma, for she knows Karma will always fix her life. Connor and Andrew struck a deal for this coming fall, and it just so happened that also this coming fall, Natalie has been transferred to Arcola Elementary School, the very same school where Chris works.
Karma is the law of moral causation. Here are some Universal Laws of Karma:
- The Great Law
As you sow so shall you reap. What goes around comes around. Whatever we contribute to the universe will come back to us, sometimes even to bite us in the ass.
- The Law of Humility
One must be accepting of something in order to change it. Only when we know we are deficient, can we improve ourselves.
- The Law of Growth
Wherever you go, there you are. And if you don’t know where you’re going any road will take you there.
- The Law of Responsibility
One must take responsibility for what is in one’s life. We mirror what surrounds us and what is surrounding us mirrors us.
- The Law of Connection
The smallest or seemingly least important of things must be done because everything is connected. Past, Present, and Future are all connected. Connor getting his new digs in Saskatoon is an example of this connectedness.
- The Law of Focus
One cannot think of two things at the same time. It is foolish to think that a person who is multi-tasking is a person who is focused. Carpe Diem (pluck the day) is too general for this law -- Zen moments fit better.
- The Law of Here and Now
Old thoughts, old patterns of behavior, and old dreams will always prevent us from having new thoughts, behaviors, and dreams. This especially sucks when it relates to dreams. Same ol’ same ol’ will always result in same ol’.
- The Law of Change
Each of our personal histories will keep repeating until we learn to change our path. Doing the same things over and over again produces every time the same outcome. If ever you are not happy with the outcome, you must change your path.
- The Law of Patience and Reward
Rewards of lasting value require patient toil. I am not a patient person. With clients I really don’t need closure but with my own concerns I seem to need immediate outcomes. Hmmm … I’m a busking aficionado. I busk and I blog about busking. I am a self-declared buskologist. The rewards I’ve gained over the past decade of busking have been socially rich. I like being in the singer-songwriter guitar community in Regina, and I love being able to book gigs practically anywhere I desire, my favorites being BUSHWAKKERS and the COPPER KETTLE.
Karma is action and action is doing. Anything we do will affect our Karma.
KARMA IS THE CONSEQUENCE OF EVERY ACTION IN OUR LIVES – OUR UNWRITTEN SUFFERING AND SOOTHING IN OUR PERSONAL BILDUNGSROMANS.
